Walk raises £3,100 for Beat SCAD

Beat SCAD was delighted to be selected by HJ Enthoven in Darley Dale as their nominated charity for a sponsored walk on 9 March to celebrate International Women’s Day. Trustee Chair Rebecca Breslin was invited to attend the event and joined the group of 31 to walk from the company premises at Darley Dale smelter, winding along picturesque village lanes, alongside fields of sheep, and up through Stanton Moor in the stunning Derbyshire Peak District on the misty Monday afternoon. The group, many sporting HJE shirts in the purple IWD colour, paused at the Nine Ladies stone circle for a celebratory photo before heading back down to the smelter site, comfortably achieving 10k steps (do the hills make them count as more?!).

Darley Dale walk

Nine ladies is a small early Bronze Age stone circle, part of a complex of prehistoric circles and standing stones on Stanton Moor, and traditionally believed to depict nine ladies turned to stone as a penalty for dancing on Sunday – fortunately, the walk took place on Monday, so the ladies (and gents) were free to dance and celebrate International Women’s Day!

Rebecca said "International Women's Day takes place on 8 March each year, which is the date when I had my SCAD in 2012, so it was an honour to spend my 14th SCADiversary with the HJ Enthoven team on their sponsored walk the following day. It is fantastic to see employers and their teams taking part in IWD and to generously support charities as part of their activities. I had a brilliant afternoon."

The walk raised an amazing £3,100. Huge thanks to Rebecca’s friend Kerry for nominating Beat SCAD, to Emily for coordinating the successful event, and to the whole team at HJ Enthoven for supporting Beat SCAD and walking to fundraise.
