Beat SCAD funds Clinical Research Fellow for further six months

We are pleased to announce that we have awarded a further six months of funding (£51,812.93) for Clinical Research Fellow, Dr Anju Velvet, on the UK SCAD research project in Leicester.

We are pleased to announce that we have awarded a further six months of funding (£51,812.93) for Clinical Research Fellow, Dr Anju Velvet, on the UK SCAD research project in Leicester.

In April 2022 we awarded £106,000 to support a Clinical Research Fellow and in October 2023 we announced an increase of £98,624.18 to this original award to support a three-year PhD. The Research Fellow’s position was due to finish in February 2027, but considering some start-up delays with HRT procurement related to post-Brexit regulatory requirements, and following discussions with Professor David Adlam, Senior Lecturer, Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Leicester, Cardiovascular Research Centre at Glenfield General Hospital, who is leading the SCAD research project, the trustee board agree that extending the period until August 2027 will give Dr Velvet the necessary time to complete her research, which is very important for the SCAD project and the SCAD patient community.

Dr Velvet is investigating the role of sex hormones in SCAD. She is looking at women of child-bearing age (both SCAD patients and non-SCAD patients as healthy volunteers for comparison), at two different points in the menstrual cycle and performing MRI scans, testing exercise and sex hormone levels.

We are grateful to all our supporters who have donated and fundraised to make it possible for us to make this award. If you would like to donate to help Beat SCAD continue to support essential research, please find options here.
