Learn about SCAD

Thanks to Covid, it’s five years since the last face-to-face conference! There is much new research to explain, many new clinical observations to describe and exciting developments to share. Our aim is to educate, inform and inspire you with all that life after SCAD has to offer. There will also be an hour of Q&A, split into two sessions, where you can put your questions directly to the experts, as well as opportunities to talk with them informally through the day.

Speakers include:

Dr David Adlam, Senior Lecturer, Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Leicester, Cardiovascular Research Centre at Glenfield General Hospital, who is leading the Leicester Biomedical Research Unit’s SCAD research programme.

Lis Neubeck, Professor of Cardiovascular Health in the School of Health and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier University, who will be talking about physical and mental recovery after SCAD.

Dr Tina Chrysochou, Consultant Nephrologist, Salford Royal Hospital, who will talk about Fibromuscular Dysplasia and SCAD.

Dr Anne Scott, Consultant Cardiologist, Forth Valley Hospital, who is heading up the SCAD Service Scotland.

Other speakers currently being confirmed – more details to follow soon.

Meet patients, families and friends

Meeting other people who have ‘been there’ and ‘get it’ is invaluable for most rare disease patients, no matter how long ago they had their event. Family and friends also need support and the conference is an ideal opportunity to meet people who understand something about what those affected by SCAD are living with.

There will be plenty of opportunities to talk to other delegates during the day.

Get involved on the day

  • Our ‘Inspiration Board’ returns! You can inspire other patients by posting messages about your achievements since SCAD or photos of you doing something that made you smile as you recovered. Bring your messages or photos or use the paper provided on the day to write on. (Please use a copy of photos, not your precious originals!)
  • Submit your burning questions in advance for speakers to answer on the day – look out for an email from us requesting your input
  • Take part in Q&A sessions during the day
  • Tell Beat SCAD how we can help YOU
